traditional craftsmen

I've been thinking of added ideas to also create an appreciation and an emphasis for local, traditional or old-world crafts and thought that perhaps I could get people to also contribute traditional items they can find in their towns and cities' local crafts shops. I'm thinking Russian,Irish,Belgian(still boasts their wonderful lace tradition),German,Czech etc. Places where I feel this is very much still around. And with this,we could have a special area of some sort or for contrast,mix with the contemporary creations.

Hello, my name is Scott Johnson and I am creating a concept group based on the idea of knitting communities. As handicraft has surfaced from obscurity in the last years,into perhaps the most revolutionary thing since deconstruction this is an attempt to bring forth creatives of all mediums-designers,artists,craftsmen & even mere lovers who do this as a pass time-all passionate about hand working in all its ambience and nuance.

In this, we will come together each season to show our works for a group presentation during the fashion weeks and hopefully other events held elsewhere in the world.

With the current state of fashion as it is there is a need for resurgence….a real sense of personality and an idiosyncratic expression. It is a collective reaction against mass commerce,corporate & branded gimmicks and safeness which has quite obviously plagued fashion through and through lately. In that,a pure appreciation for personality, soul and emotion. And of course,originality.

My interests in participation is in for anybody of various creative fields that enjoy making one-of-a-kind things by hand. The pieces made and contributed can be anything and
everything quirky-clothes,accessories,shoes to even hand-made dolls & figures. This format can also include pieces of existing forms with one’s own hand embellishments,appliqués,patchworking etc.

The focus is to create a feeling of freedom and spontaneity. A chance to do something inspiring and totally independent.

Primary requirements will be a request for at least 4-5 one-of-a-kind pieces contributed each.

Also, I am interested in creatives who would like to do live, made-to-order pieces at
the events.

As the project is still quite premature and will take a tremendous amount of

development, it will in the likeliest happen in the next few seasons. Perhaps,beginning at the S/S 07 défilés in Paris. Venues and schedules will be announced,however.

Thus far,cities I am interested in presenting at are:

Paris,Berlin,London,Antwerp,New York,Moscow and Tokyo.
